“t” = difference in time between the transmitted and received signal.

Distance to the satellite can therefore be calculated as we know the time and speed of light:

distance = time x speed

If we have more than 4 satellites we can calculate distance to each of them from a point on earth and then calculate our resulting position (long/lat).
