Rule: Always use RTK FIX mode
You will often see a GPS Receiver report its status as FIX or FLOAT Mode.
Captures made when in “RTK Fixed” mode have the best repeatability and accuracy.
“RTK Float” is a term used to describe an indeterminate or halfway condition that has been reached when a GPS receiver is in the process of obtaining a Fixed solution. If you have poor sky view or multipath interference your GPS receiver may not be able to move from Float to Fix.
Float measurements should not be trusted.
GPS receivers can display high accuracies (such as 2cm) when in Float mode, but again - don’t trust it. Float measurements can be out by up to five meters, with no way of telling. Better to use regular SBAS than Float mode.
