This article describes how to setup ESRI's ArcGIS Field Maps to work with a compatible Radiodetection locator.

 

This article is based on ArcGIS Field Maps Beta 26.3.0 for iOS. Android settings are similar.

 

Setting up ESRI ArcGIS Field Maps

 

NOTE This tutorial is intended to get ArcGIS Field Maps set up for a quick test and it is not intended to substitute ArcGIS setting instructions or your company guidelines and instructions.

NOTE; You must have setup MyRD already before setting up ArcGIS Field Maps, MyRD needs to be active in the background and your paired locator needs to be ON

 

Select Sign in with ArcGIS Online
Enter your Username and Password and press Sign In
Tap the User icon on the top left corner to enter your profile settings
Select Provider

Select Add Provider

NOTE; You must have setup MyRD already before setting up ArcGIS Field Maps, MyRD needs to be active in the background and your paired locator needs to be ON

 

Select Radiodetection MyRD

You locator GNSS Bluetooth device  will appear

 

Select this to make it the default provider. Note the check icon.

Tap the < icon to go back to your profile settings

Tap Profile

Location profiles in ArcGIS Field Maps is a setting that defines how GPS or GNSS receiver coordinates are translated and transformed to match your map's coordinate system.

In this guide we will set up a profile to accept WGS84 and convert it into NAD83.

This is just an example.

Tap Add

 

 

GNSS Coordinate System
Let's search for NAD 1983 2011 . Once it appears in the filtered results, tap it to select it.
 

 

Map Coordinate System
Let's search for WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere. Once it appears in the filtered results, tap it to select it.

Area for Data Collection

Zoom in close to your location and tap Next 

 

Datum Transformation

Select ~WGS_184_(ITRF08)_To_NAD_1983-2011

Tap Done

 

Name your profile, for Example NAD83
Tap Save

 

Tap NAD83 to make it your default profile
Tap the < icon to go back to your profile settings

 

Tap Done

 

Esri Field Maps is now setup to work with your Radiodetection Locator

 

 

Using Field Maps with your Radiodetection locator

 

If you have not done so already select the Map you wish to update.

If you do not see any map just swipe down on the screen to make the Search bar appear.

Search for your map. In the the example shown I started typing "Ut" and the Utility Locating Field Maps CGA appeared. Please note this is just an example and you must search for the maps shared with you

Once you have selected the map this will load up,

Note the GPS accuracy shown above the map. Click this line if you want to see more details about the GNSS stream

Press Done to go back to the map
Press the + icon to selet the utility you are locating
Select the required utility
Start taking Survey Measurement points on your locator by pressing the SM button: 

 

Note the blue dot in the screen which represent the current position of your locator.

Once you have finished press Submit to transfer your data to ArcGIS online and save your map.

NOTE if you do not press submit and close Field Maps you will loose your points

 

Your data is now available in ArcGIS online
